arthur miller is dead at 89

when i was in stern he came to speak at B&N on 18th.  I went, forcing some friends to come with me.  i remember telling them that one day our children would say to us "You were alive when Arthur Miller was alive?  And you could have heard him speak, and you didn't go?!?"

well, i went, and i heard, and i can sincerely say that we have just lost one of the more brilliant and non-comformist thinkers out there.  although he would probably make the argument that without non-comformity, there is no brilliance.

You're lucky. I spent two years trying to get him up to YC when I was there, through a friend who knew him from a writing workshop. There were rumors he was going to attend a production of a play written by the friend (since the play began in the workshop), but those rumors never panned out. Some of Miller's work was uneven, but I agree that he was brilliant and that the loss is a significant one.
