Movie - Boondock Saints

This is going up early as i'm running off to vacation in the next 12 hours.
This is the movie you all expected me to open with.  Or at least, should have expected me to open with it if you've ever spoken to me in real life.

Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will Be Done
Genre - Action/Drama (does that begin to encapsulate it?)
Stars - Willem Dafoe, Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus, David Della Rocco, Billy Connolly.  if you didn't already know that, i'm not sure what to say...
Key Points - Irish Men, Irish Men in Boston, Irish Catholics, Catholicism, Clearing Scum off the Earth
Points to Ponder - Were they sanctified in jail when the water dripped from the crack (one crack broken into 3, like the trinity)(the next morning is the first reference to being 'saints')?  Note that as the scenes progress, Smecker's involvement in the telling of the story becomes more and more enmeshed until "There was a FIREFIGHT!".  Also note that Rocko was the only to sustain more than a flesh wound in the big shoot out - possible because he was in it for revenge, and not only for holy reasons?  And of course, the final point - if this happened in real life, would any of us adore them?  Would we fear them?  Would we help them?  How would we feel if the people who are supposed to protect us from this happening became part of it?
"And shepherds we shall be, for Thee, My Lord, for Thee."
have a happy passover

you always can tell when i'm losing it

Spamusement!

2 scoops

picking through a box of raisin bran (by the handful) puling out the raisins and trashing the rest.

would feel more guilty if the weren't going to be trashed tomorrow anyhow.

are raisins crusted with sugar technically still 'fruit'?

come on come on come on

i am more bored than i have been in a really long time.  i keep putting my head down and picking it back up and it's only been like a minute, and i just want it to be 5 so i can leave because i'm going crazy

Movie - Bulletproof Monk

Genre - action movie based on a comic book (popular genre in our house)
Stars - Yun-Fat Chow, Seann William Scott, Jaime King (anyone see Sin City?)
Key Points - Nazis, Tibet, Secret Icantation of Immortality, Street Fighting
Points to Ponder - What was The Monk's name?  If he was bulletproof, was it because he protected the incantation, or by nature of his soul; why did he not die (of the wound he received in 1930s, minimally)when he passed along the responsibility?  What is the nature of one who can be entrusted with a holy mission (obviously it's not someone who possesses learning or humility)?

my pissy letter to YU

As you may know, my husband and I live in Smicha
housing at XXX, at the corner of XXX.

Since 3 this afternoon, our street has been pounding
and shaking with noise.  Noise from cars blasting
music, noise from people drag-racing, noise from
people partying in the street.  There has been a
constant bass thrumming, vibrating my apartment and
everything in it.

My husband and I called 311.  We called 911.  We
called YU security.  And yet we have not seen anyone
respond to our complaints.  It is now 10 o'clock.

This has been a constant thorn since the weather has
gotten warmer, affecting my sleep, and obviously my
job performance.

I find it unacceptable that this go on without anyone
caring.  We cannot take it anymore, and are now
looking to move out.

This experience has been the worst I have been through
in the Heights.  It is constant, grating, and just
wears us down.  I call and report the noise as often
as I can deal with the run-around of making the
reports.  I am losing my mind from it.

I would have to recommend that a system be instituted
by which people who live in YU housing that is not
directly on the main campus can be afforded the same
privileges as people who live on 184th and 185th.  We
deserve to be able to rest.  We deserve to be able to
sleep.  We even deserve to be able to spend a day in
our apartment without getting migraines.

Until this is addressed, I doubt that a community can
ever grow here.  I would never consider raising a
family under these conditions.  There are nights, such
as tonight, when we have to turn to the mercy of our
friends to get any sleep at all.

I understand that security cannot respond to this
situation personally, but someone needs to ensure that
the police take these complaints seriously and follow
up on them!

I also cannot recommend to any young couples to move
into the YU community as it would be dishonest of me
to do so.

Please look into this, and please email me back about
it.  I look forward to hearing what ideas you feel can
be implemented to resolve the problem.

Thank you,
DWB

any lawyers in the house?

In Ohio, identity theft is done by the cops, and it's legal

Authorities gave Michelle Szuhay  another woman’s identity to use while
undercover.

Haley Dawson has never been a stripper.

But Ohio liquor-control agents took her identity and gave it to a
22-year-old college student who they had recruited to work undercover as
a nude dancer.

Yeah, wow, would I be pissed off.

Any comment on the legality of giving out someone's social security number?

As part of an investigation that resulted in nothing more than
misdemeanor charges, police paid University of Dayton criminal-justice
student Michelle Szuhay $100 a night to take it all off in early 2003 —
as liquor-control officers drank beer and watched in the audience for
three months, court papers show.

Other officers watched her strip on the Internet, using an account
created under the identity of a dead man.

Am also wondering why they didn't use a dead woman's ID for the stripper part.  and why the cops had to watch...

For anyone who's too lazy to watch the video, here's a pic of the "stripper" describing her "internship" with the "marshalls":

erase thomas jefferson?!

stupid idea, but it'll go nowhere

(warning: the article's really nasty for no particular reason.)

Teacher Marguerite Hughes, part of a group that began pushing for the change two years ago via petition said, “It’s an awkward position to ask African-American children and teachers to celebrate a historical figure who was a slave-owner.”
