today

nextel is totally rocking.  they have the best web site ever.  you can enter all this address book info, and decide which you ant in your phone, and so forth.  v fun.  AT&T, on the other hand, is giving me a migraine.  not only is my phone dead so i can't answer calls, but i can't get to anyone's phone numbers.  seriously - the screen freezes and it shuts itself off.  i bought a new battery on ebay (panasonic discontinued this phone, and both they and AT&T don't give 2 shits about the fact that i am phonelss and contatc-less), so i'm hoping with a new battery, i may get to keep the phone on long enough to copy down all the numbers i want.

school is so good!  that is a hugely shocking statement to come from me, btw.

funny thing - i got a baby-sitting job with this woman who knows my rabbi's daughter, but my phone was being crappy, so i didn't catch how she knew her.  anyhow.  i spoke to the woman on sunday, and she says "are you related to the weiss who just got engaged?"  so i said "i am the weiss who just got engaged."  she also knows avraham's mother.  still not hearing the whole thing (more phonre being crappy), but i figure i'll ask her when i see her.

i baby-sit for her (very cute) daughter, and at the end of the night, i ask her how she knoes the bronsteins.  her husband says "well, Rabbi Bronstein works for Rabbi Charlop..."  and i say "yeah, i know, but how do *you* know him?"  and she says "I'm Rabbi Charlop's daughter."

Rabbi Charlop, who not only works with Rabbi Bronstein, but is Becky (Fine) Charlop's father-in-law.  Becky is my rabbi's daughter and my brother-in-law's cousin, and i know other branches of the Charlop family as well.

all in all, very funny, and must be repeated back to Rabbi C at some point.  didi i mention how totally cute the baby is?

ps: re: my phone being dead, please email me your numbers if i should have them.  thanks!

poor
sad
neglected blog

called me to tell me how it feels, and couldn't get through.  my phone is dead, and trying to get switched to nextel, and stuck on AT&T right now - with no way to be answered.

emailed me to tell me how it feels, and got no response.  i've been running myself ragged, and haven't responded to an email in decades.

tried to find me to tell me how it feels, and i was nowhere to be found.  between my apt, job interviews, avraham's apt, scranton, bayswater, and school, noone ever knows where i am.

my blog is very sad.  will someone please hug it?

the story (II):

ok, so dani and i have told this story a few times, but the fastest and funnest way to share it is to blog it.  Part II is below.  For the crucial background information and tension building narrative, see part I on avraham's blog:

dani begs you to read part one first to truly appreciate the intricacies of part two.

-----

middle of the 3rd, dani's like "agh!!!!! go call." avraham jumps up and runs out of the room (after waiting patiently for the next commercial break), dani watches the game for two more seconds, then realizes she'd rather hear what he says to his paretns.

dani walks into his room, and he's on the phone saying "do you mind if we get engaged before you officially meet the weisses face-to-face?" grins at her. she bounces nervously... he wraps up with "ok, so don't stay on the line or anything, but don't go to sleep early tonight." the Official Response from the parents was "oh sure, go ahead, whatever you want," or something to that effect.

we start to giggle, and dash off down the hall to the kitchen, where after a short frantic search, dani finds a twistie tie. she hands it to avraham, and we dash back to his room. again, keep in mind that the living room door was open, and they must have seen/heard us running back and forth multiple times giggling like loons. yet, nobody suspected anything. also, by the way, ari weiss had left a few minutes before then and missed everything. avraham hands the tie back to dani, and she ties it around her finger (the ring's not ready yet), and then says "ok, what now?"

avraham drops to one knee, and begins to laugh, then says "will you marry me?" there were 14 minutes left in the fourth quarter.

dani laughs and says "oh god yes!"

then we both laugh. and dani asks avraham if we'll always be this romantic. he thinks for a second and says, "yeah, probably." after a night of burping and grossness. more laughter & giggling.

flurry of phone calls to the families (avraham's mother's response, "thats really great. wonderful," in a deadpan; dani's father's response, "are you joking or serious?"), and then to the guys in the living room (avraham called eddie and dani called elliot. unfortunately for dani, elliot wasn't in the room to answer his phone). from down the hall we hear a whoop and "dani and avraham just got engaged!" next thing we see is stampeding happy friends... and the night went from there.

funny tidbits

avraham and my brother-in-law share a birthday

we went to the same restaurant with my parents after we got engaged as my sister and brother-in-law

we got engaged on superbowl sunday, just like (you guessed it) my brother-in-law and sister

avraham and my brother-in-law are both rabbis' sons.  and have dark hair.  and dark eyes.  and can't sing.  and are about 5'9".  and say they will be bald by 40.  (i swear, my mother and sister have mentioned each of these to me)(repeatedly)(i added - and went to YU for undergrad, and are jewish, and, and, and...)
